I am with my friend in a dried food wholesale shop, asking lots of questions.

Pick up a pack from a soup ingredients shelf and ask again. ‘How do you think?’

‘Yes. It’s good idea, because you teach yoga, speak a lot!’

The pack contains dried fruits and nuts,

saying

‘Moisten lungs tea with Heaven flower’s fruits’.

 

Wow! That attract me,

me a Chinese Traditional Medicine beginner.

 

Having cooked according her instruction,

I got Amrita – nectar from heaven.

 

 

Rinse white nuts – Sweet almonds in hot water. Rinse other ingredients – Snow pears, Tangerines, Honey dates, Figs in water. Cut figs into half.

Heat 1 liter water in a pot. I use thermal cooker. When water is warmed, add all the ingredients. Boil it in high fire then lower heat to simmer for another 45 mins.

Pour over strainer. Separate liquid and others. Keep fig and dates.

Drink with hot water, or soda and ice cubes.

Or mix with Agar. Make jelly with figs and dates.

 

Sweetness from heaven soak our throat, lungs and our words.

薬膳ビギナー

 

乾物卸問屋さんで友人に質問の嵐。薬膳スープの棚からひと袋取り出して「どう思う?」

「そうね。それがいいわ。ヨガを教えてるから、いっぱい喋るしね。」

 

袋にはドライフルーツとナッツ。ラベルには「天花果 潤肺茶」

薬膳ビギナーの私にはいいかも!

 

友人に教わった通りに作ると、アムリタ・天の甘露の出来上がり。

 

白いナッツ・スィートアーモンドは熱湯に通す。他の材料・雪梨、蜜柑、棗と無花果をさっと洗う。無花果は半分に切る。

鍋に1リットルの水を入れ火にかける。私は真空保温鍋を使用。水が温かくなったら全ての材料を入れ、一度強火で沸騰させてから、45分弱火で煮る。

漉して液体とその他に分ける。無花果と棗を取り出しておく。

 

熱いお湯と一緒に飲み物として。ソーダと氷で冷たくして。

寒天を溶かし、果物と一緒にスィーツとして。

 

天の甘露を喉に、肺に、そして言葉に。

 

It’s good for you. My sis said.

Years later I founds this pricy New Zealand honey at Mustafa Centre.

Now it is one of my regular ingredients for breakfast and tea.

The bigger it’s certified number is, the more expensive it is, even the taste is not much difference.

The number is supposed to indicate the anti-bacterial properties which treat eye ear sinus infection, inflammation, high cholesterol, might be prevent cancer.

It works both in hot and cool. I love to have with yogurt or in mint tea.

Yumm… Golden sweetie. Oh! It’ all right. It is medicine, isn’t it?

This is my usual last call before leaving Japan

with Starbucks’ ‘Houji-cha latte’ as the last sip of Japanese drink.

Starbucks starts selling Houji-cha latte

at outside of Japan.

Nice to have home-reminder in any time.

At home? Yes.

How to make is same with chai.

Put more than 1Tbs of Houji-cha

and small amount of water in small pan.

Heat over medium flame.

Let it boiling up for a while

till water change into brown.

Add a cup of milk or soya-milk

and brown sugar.

When it turns into brown,

strain and pour into a cup.

Have a sip of warm heart wherever we are.

‘It is not artificial. It is natural color from flower. Don’t worry.’

I always said to the people who hesitated to take refreshment

before Dhamma talk in Ariyasom Villa.

It was blue liquid, looked like blue ink.

I pick Butterfly pea flowers

which bloomed one day before.

Over fresh or dried flowers,

pour boiling water.

When the water cool down,

squeeze flowers,

water turn into blue.

*

Squeeze small lime.

Blue turn into purple.

Magical moment.

Drink purple water.

It’s only lime taste

but is spring water of youth.

Butterfly pea water has anthocyanin which is anti-oxidant. Because it has no taste, it can be used as food color.

I have a mint pot. She grows very quick.

I ask her ‘may I have some?’ She smiles always.

Cut about 5cm above the soil. Receive two twigs with gratitude.

Drain twigs in clear water.

Place some rock sugar or honey into a small pot. Coil the twigs and stuff in.

Pour boiling water. Close the cover immediately.

Pour light green liquid into a cup.

Smily Freshy Greeny.

Happy day restarted. Thanks!

‘What are you drinking? If it’s not black, it is not coffee.’

Then I stopped adding milk long time ago,

thought black coffee looked cool and tough.

One day my friend made a cup of latte with full of milk foam.

I recalled I loved and still love this tenderness.

Why not? Never mind how others think.

Fluffy touch. Sweet to others. Kind to myself.

Warmness and toughness are inside.

Warm milk (1/3 of cup) by microwave. (If you want sugar, you might mix in milk.)

Whip it by Milk Frother.

Add coffee. Enjoy.

‘This tea might help you. These came from Korea.’

My Korean friend gave me some packages. It was Ginseng roots tea.

When I finished chemotherapy, my Chinese doctor gave me Chinese medicine containing ginseng.

Ginseng brings energy to body, stimulate liver function, has anti-cancer effect.

I needed energy for recovery.

Though

Be mindful of own nature.

After drinking tea, if get hyper-active, it’s not for you.

Lucky you. You have enough energy, no need more.

Be kind to own nature.

Don’t drink after Sunset. It brings sleeplessness.

Body need rest in night. Don’t let mind force body.

When I need energy, I sip hot tea slowly.

Enjoy waiting body charged.

Feel light in body and mind, stand up and go!

‘This is farewell present for you. We will open and drink together after a decade.’

My friend gave me a package of Pu-Erh tea, when I left Singapore. We promised.

Today is the day after a decade.

Yogis believe the words we said become true.

Japanese believe once words are pronounced, they get sprit.

I moved back to Singapore.

One day we get together, open and drink this tea.

Boil water. Warm tiny cups. Wait with smiling each other.

Good taste takes time to come out. Maybe a decade.

I was too tired,  got a cold, kept coughing. Took a cup of warm drink. Relieved.

*

My first bottle was present from my Korean friend. I hooked it.

*

There is two types, ‘Ginger and honey’ and ‘Yuzu (aromatic citrus) and honey’.

Ginger makes body warm. Yuzu is rich in vitamin C.

Both are good for recover from cold and refresh!

I sip it with hot water.

I gulp it with soda.

I drink it with hot milk.

I add it in marinade.

I eat it as marmalede.

Finished this bottle already? Ok. Open next!

Taking view away from a book in cool evening, I feel missing something.

Close the book, walk towards kitchen.

Warm a cup of milk. Sit on a sofa.

Stir milk with cinnamon stick with brown rock sugar.

Warmth inside my palms, thinking my friends who gave this sweetness.

Ready to go to bed. Sweet dreams are waiting.
